My son used the salt water fuel cell car for his science fair project. It worked well. The only thing is that the Mg plate can be broken easily. Birthday present for uber-smart techie. He loved it!!
SUSAN W.
our grandsons love it. It works wonderfully. They enjoy seeing the buildup of corrosion due to the salt and then realize it must be cleaned off in order to continue using it. Great lesson!

Pretty cool for the amusement factor, but like others have said, it doesn't really run on salt water... But it is pretty cool to put together and see it buzz around the floor for a bit. My son likes how it has front wheel drive so you can make it do cool skids and wipeouts and it keeps going.
DOROTHY T.
its the best thing in the world.

Went together easily, very interesting construction. works perfectly. An excellent value.

I'm certainly surprised by the negative reviews. Makes me wonder about user error - if the car or batteries were built wrong or the solution was not made correctly - as thie instructions are quite specific. We got these for our 4 and 7 year old daughter and son for Christmas and they are having so much fun with them. Both enjoyed putting them together - of course, they needed some help being so young. You have to snap the pieces out of plastic forms and then use a nail file to quickly file off little nubs that may interfere with how the car works if left alone (not sure if this was in the instructions or not, husband did the reading). If you take the time to talk to your kids, there is a ton of educational opportunities from putting the car together, assembling the battery, making the salt water solution, why you need magnesium strips, how salt water makes the car run and more. There is definately something about building the car yourself and making the fuel to run it that adds to the enjoyment for the kids. The car is super cute and cool and amazingly fast. My kids literally run after it to catch it. When it bumps into things, it rebounds off and zips in another direction. Makes the chase even more fun. I'm going to buy a pile of these as birthday gifts as my 7 year old constantly has birthday parties to go to and his buddies will love these! Shopping done =) We also bought the little green and white solar car by the same company. It has the same educational and fun value and the kids love it also. It just doesn't zip as fast as this one - more of a walking pace speed but worth getting for sure.

Nice product. Wonderful product for growing children to experiment with. Highly compatible with school going children, improves their creativity and offers on hand know how.
BETTY W.
Entertaining. I would have liked it more if it would have come with more information on the science of it.

The car meet waht I needed it to do except the students wish it was a little bigger like the trucks

This is a great toy with learning skills that include some simple assembly, some simple measuring for the fuel, and learning how to care for you're fuel car after use. Be certain to read your instructions before you start because its so much fun you want it to last forever. You need to carefully wash after using to have a long life. I would also suggest that you purchase them fuel cell refills when you order this car, my grandson loves it.

Very good experience. But the more number of cells to be provided. Overall good requires some preparations good for childrens

ORDERED THIS FOR MY LITTLE NEICE FOR CHRISTMAS ~ WHOLE FAMILY WAS DELIGHTED WITH IT.
SHARON R.
It is a good scientific and educational toy and a good value for money. It can be used as a part of some school science project.
MICHELLE C.
if it works at first I was skeptical but incredibly ran like a mouse as you take the first drop of water
LAURA R.
The best part was they came before Christmas I was very happy about that. We haven't tried them yet, but we will.
SARAH L.
Thank you very much..its for a christmas gift and my grandson will love it...happy holidays to you and yours..God Bless

This is another gift that I have purchases for my grandson, age 10, as a gift for Christmas and we will open them up Christmas Day

This little car is a gas! It moves at quite a quick speed and never stops. You cannot leave the magnesium strip in the battery once not in use as it quickly corrodes. More strips are needed if the car is to have lasting value. It also needs a track as it cannot turn unless it touches something at it's side. The accompanying booklet should also include some of the chemistry that is happening for general information. This will increase it's educational value, otherwise it is just a toy.

My 7 year old and I put this together. He did very well with orienting himself with the drawings and actual pieces. We installed the visual affect(engine) backwards which caused it to bind up. Once we turned the engine the proper way the truck took off cruising from linoleum to the carped and over area rug with no problems. Amazed at how long the thing ran for. 25 minutes!!!!

As an engineer, i anm often dissapointed with poorly designed or manufactured items. The kit is well designed and fairly easy to assemble. It performed just as expected and advertised. It was also very resonalbly priced.
I fully recommend this for a father and son (~10 yrs old) project.

This is really fun, is a good challenge to put together and keeps interest for a long time!. It has a very nice aesthetic design and attention to detail. It should start right up, but if not check that the two metal connectors are touching the metal plates. We had to bend ours down a little to make contact. I would have liked some explanation on why it works, i.e. battery theory, for kids, the only thing keeping me from rating 5 stars. This page has a great brief explanation if you are interested:

Purchased this for my 11 years old sons birthday. He was really excited and wanted to put it together right a way. After a couple of hours we had it put together and ready to test. You definitely want to follow the directions. We added the salt/water mix that the directions recommended and away the truck went. It works really well. He took it to school the next day to show it to his teacher and class. Great product and my son and I had a lot of fun putting it together.

Great for my 9 year old put it all together by himself - but he's an expert with technical lego already.
Awsome how it runs when you just add salty water to the cell. So cool for a science project. We've only run it twice for a few minutes to save the magnesium for when he needs to show it off at school or whatever.
DAVID P.
My son said that if the directions hadn't been carefully reviewed before starting that there were several potential
fatal flaws but works great if done properly. Love that my granddaughter is so into science.
RICHARD D.
it work very well

Purchased this item for a project for our scout troop to enforce our lesson on alternative fuels. Even though assembly was quite intensive for the boys, the truck was a hit. It worked great and helped teach an important lesson about energy. Highly recommend this product!

Our 8 year old needed some help assembling, but now that it's together he can operate it by his self. I had read the reviews so I knew it was going to be slow when it was going. But I feel it's a great way to introduce the concept. And it's pretty cheap!
Rhonda R.
It was a project to build, but it was good bonding for my boyfriend and my stepson(10). He loved it.
THOMAS R.
Everyone marveled at this one

Bought this for my 7-year-old son, and we had a blast building it together. It has still held up after nearly a year.
DANIEL S.
Great fun! Had a tricky time getting the pistons to move. So, I removed it and it still works fine without the pistons in place.

For my early teen-aged step son, a whole new world of possibilities (not to mention a new set of vocabulary) in non-fossil fuel energy has expanded his horizons and his peripheral view of life and human responsibility. Thanks for bringing a beam of light to a young spectator.
MARK B.
awesome item, I bought this to help my son on a science project of alternative energies and We were surprised how the salt water chemical reaction can provide long lasting energy. This car was moving about 4 hours with just 5 drops of salt water !
CONS
You need to buy extra magnesium plates
DONALD R.
Interesting project

Awesome little kit, great for my 7 year old brother.

Easy to assemble and a great item for small kids. My 9 yr old loves it. Neat it runs on salt water u can make at home

This car is unbelievable....if we can use salt water to make this run who says we someday won't be able to do it with bigger versions
GARY C.
kids loved them but will take an adult to put them together
TIMOTHY H.
my son love it very much
LARRY P.
Love it. My kids are still having fun with it!
