I use this kit often for my classrooms. It is great, but pay attention to the wax step because otherwise the water can leak. You also have to be careful not to fill the cups all the way to the top because depending on the substrate, water can get bottlenecked at a certain level and then start to drip out of the corners. The water comes out clear, no matter what we put in the top.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter along with a few other kits like it for Christmas. She has a real interest in anything science related and loved them all but this one. She found it boring and has paid no attention to it since trying it the one time. My husband and myself found it to be really neat though and have messed with it a few times now. It worked as it was suppose to and had enough stuff in it to try it out several times.

This is an awesome kit, very easy to use, nothing extra to buy, just add dirt to the water and see it dripping clean at the bottom of the purification station! The child was able to assemble it on her own with only adult supervision! Simple idea but it works to visualize the process on which water gets filtered clean. Not too messy if you cut open the pouches containing the carbon filter carefully!
I think every kid should be taught how hard it is to get fresh, clean water and how precious it is! This kit is a great for 2nd or 3 rd grade classroom!
